Hello,
I am looking for weight pockets to go onto the webbing of a Transpac. I know there are the transweight (which I am not sure I like), OMS bca-270 and Halcyon ACB. I seem to remember a while back, there was another which I thought was nice but cannot remember. Anyone know of any others. Oh, before people jump on the "use a weight belt" know that I already do with my backplate. I am looking to setup the transpac for simple beach dives and vacations and want to experiment with some weight pocket systems. I may find that I don't like the transpac but have been staring at it for years and am gonna give it a go. I also have the DUI W&T which is ok and may end up using that, I dunno. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Just received some XS Scuba pockets today. They hold a 5lb lead and slip on 2'' webbing, no problem. They are dirt cheap at www.leisureworld.com. I plan to install them upside down so I can easily ditch the slugs if I have to.

You sure you don't mean here? http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/XSSTWBK.html

I use these pouches and like them, but I cut the label's off, of course. Don't want to look like a NASCAR.

I also wear a BP/W and put these pouches right side up, 'cause if I can't swim my rig up without ditching weight, then I'm overweighted for that dive. (maybe that's a discussion for a different thread) YMMV

There's also options here: http://www.diveriteexpress.com/bcs/pockets.shtml and here: http://www.diveriteexpress.com/bcs/weights.shtml

I have a bunch of those pockets and feel they work well. Thats what I made my weight belt from. I was thinking of a type similar to Halcyon or OMS that makes the pockets kinda like a weight integrated BC. As far as dive Rites pockets are concerned, I am kinda disappointed with them as they are cumbersome in size and their position od the harness. Specifically, the slight angle upwards that they are on. IMO, they should point straight forward and minimize their verticle profile. In all reality, I think I'll propably end up using the weight belt but would like to experiment anyway.

Of the available choices I prefer the Dive Rite 16 and 32 lb pockets. They are vertically, but it, and the slight angle works and tends to keep the weight closer to the backplate and tends to keep them far enough aft that they do not interfere with hip D-rings, etc. They are using vertical space that is otherwise wasted as nothing else goes there, while real estate along the webbing on the waist belt is very valuable.

The Halcyon pockets were the absolute worst as in that regard as they carried the weight so far forward that it made styaying veritical on the surface nearly impossible. Plus they interfere with the hip D ring and stage/deco bottle placement. I never liked their solution of using webbing or a D-ring on the pouch to secure a stage or light cannister as it pushed everything out 2-3 inches farther away from the hip. Plus I found them to be very bulky with larger than needed handles for ditching. They got e-bayed in a hurry.

The OMS pouches fall in the middle but they are in general much bulkier than the DR version (especially when compared to the 16 lb DR pockets) and tend to interfere more with hip D-rings, etc.

So you slip them back towards the tank as oppossed to in front? I was not thinking that way. That may work for me.
Thanks

How much weight are you looking to carry ? I use the little Dive Rite Clipper pockets. They work great if you don't need much weight.

HNITSUJ:
Guessing 10lbs but am not totally sure.

The Clipper pockets will each hold a 5 lb weight for a total of 10. If you need a few more pounds you could always add it on your tank strap, although the 16 lb. pockets look fairly compact.

One of the things I like about Dive Rite is they have plenty of options so you can customize your rig to your liking. If you don't have one already, checkout their Quick Draw sleeve. It's perfect for a safety sausage. I have it tie wrapped to the bottom loops of my Transpac. Out of the way, but instantly available if you need it.

What are the exact dimensions of those pockets and what is the largest slab/shot bag of weight they'll hold ??

Thanks,
