Hey everyone:

Quick question for those older than me.
I am 45 years old and just trying to get an idea of what age I will be able to dive until?
As much as I would like to say forever, that term is just too vague.

So, who out there, over the age of 60, is diving consistently?

Thanks and safe diving for many years to come.

Jim

That is a question that just can not be answered.

I have seen some 20 year olds that can barely move and some 80 year olds that would run you ragged.

It is so such an individual thing.

The key is.....do as much as YOU can while you can and take care of yourself as best as you can so you can do more.

I have a friend who is in his mid 70s and dives a couple times each month. There are active divers in the Sea Divers dive club in their 80s. You don't have to be Jack LaLane, but as long as you can carry a tank and weights you should still be able to breathe through a regulator.

exactly what Rich said...My husband certified a couple this week. She is 65 and he is 70, about my parents age - I can't see my parents getting certified. It all depends on the condition of the individual.

Am 63 and will have done over 300 dives this year. Hope I can dive for ever.

Agree that it is very much dependent on the individual's conditioning, etc.

I'm only 6 months away from the venerable age of 60 and by the end of this year I should notch at least 300 dives for 2006. I've averaged between 250 and 350 dives a year for the past 6 years and don't see those numbers declining any time soon.

I'm almost 57 and still dive....I do have neuropathy in my legs, but I can climb up and down spring entrances...sometimes with crutches. Underwater I'm weightless so the neuropathy issue goes away

I dive a lot with a guy who is in his mid 70's - he dives like 2-3 times per week (2 dives per diving day) He usually does 2 60 minute dives (to 60 FSW) on 1 steel 120.

I really tried to write this simply.

My instructor was certified in 1968 while in college. I spent a week in Cozumel with my instructor's instructor (the coach) and the coaches wife. I'm not sure I can do the math, but it sounds like if I take care of myself, I have another 25 years of diving ahead of me.
