What do you have to say about the rest? the bannings thread is starting to slow down a tad.

IMHO, this is the problem. You guys ban somebody that you decided was more a negative force on the board than a positive one and then you set yourselves up to listen to all the banned person's buddies whine and complain about it. Then you get the first amendment activists, the rec.scuba free speech morons, and the democracy cretins in the thread and it all goes to hell in a handbasket. It was the same thing with the singles forum and look what an abomination that turned into.

Take a page from Machiavelli and hit hard and don't make excuses. If you need to do "evil", do it quickly and return to all the useful stuff you guys have to do behind the scenes. When you guys decide to do something, it has to be swift, certain, and you have to stand behind it. Tell people "this is the way it is, the decision was made, deal with it or leave". When people start calling you guys into question (esp. in public) and whining to high hell about it, ban them too.

This makes a lot of sense. Once you open the “can of worms” by allowing these discussions to proliferate it’s hard to get the lid back on.

I feel compelled to point out that calling them free speech morons and the democracy cretins could be considered name calling and therefore a TOS violation. I suggest that you consult with bulletin board legal specialist to asses your liability in this matter.

Thanks, Mike. I edited my original post to be in line with the TOS. Sorry, I haven't kept up with all that since the big "ad hominem" stuff went down.

Walter:
Good advice O-ring,

If it's followed, the board will self destruct.
You could be right and the board would self-destruct. But, I think an equally likely outcome would be that it would drive off all the individuals that will never be happy no matter what the moderators and Pete do and keep stirring up trouble at every turn.

I agree.

My only "problem" is their unwillingness to answer simple questions.

"Eric was banned because he violated such and such policy." Pretty simple if you ask me.

Sounds like a question to me. Can someone ban him?

Thanks

Nice try but I've been only vocal in threads started by Netdoc to learn our opinions.

Have you sent any email lately? hehehe

MikeS:
You're welcome. How was Bonnaire?
It was ok.. I saw the same 3 fish I saw last year though, so that wasn't terribly interesting. Hard to argue with 82 degree water at 120' though..

It depends if it was derogatory or factual. I once (in real life) told someone that they were incompetant. They didn't really appreciate this and said they weren't going to sit there and let me insult them. I calmly explained that I wasn't calling them names and offered proof that incompetant was a legitamet description of their behavior. The conversation didn't go well after that...

Odd...I'd really like to see someone argue with water at any depth...seems futile...
