PerroneFord:
Does anyone know if Hammerhead is currently SHIPPING product?

My order just shipped yesterday. I waited a little over a month as the backplates without the handles were not in stock last month. This is my third hammerhead plate, so yes, I like them. :)

Hi guys, need to check with the Hammerhead BP users, can this BP fit a Halcyon or OMS wing ? Thanks

It should work with just about any wing as long as you use a STA.

BSea,

Looks like you have it figured out and the cold water special does come with a choice of either a single or 2 pc sta. You will need a soft crotch strap though as Hammerhead only supplies the standard webbing with their kit. Another wing option would be to get the 35Lbs golem wing which isn't so streamline as the Oxycheq Mach V but it is very tough and comes with SS cam bands.

Since, this is your first BP/W setup and getting a good bargain is probably what you want, I would not get a comfort harness first and try out the hog harness that comes with the Hammerhead plate first. If you really hate it then by all means get a comfort harness.

Cheers,

SangP

BSea,
Since, this is your first BP/W setup

Well, I have about 15 dives on this setup, and now I'm planning my next BP/W. I dive mostly steel tanks locally, and if I use only a shory (for shallow dives), I'm too heavy. So I'll be getting an aluminum plate in the next month or so. I'll use the same wing for the rest of this year, but I'll be looking for a travel wing, as this will also be my travel BP/W.

My wife and I got ours before they had a website and a model for the plate (it was just a link off their machine shop's page). It works great, they guys were helpful on the phone, they shipped quickly, and their customer service was top-notch. I had a minor issue with a hole missing its countersink on the STA. They swapped it out and I had the new one in a day or 2.

Ours have the handles on them. You don't notice the cutouts when you are wearing it, and they are very comfortable. We even used them with just an UnderArmor shirt in St. Lucia on our honeymoon and they were still comfortable.

If you are looking for a mirror finish, look elsewhere. The plate looks great with its blasted finish, and I didn't take a file to any of the edges. There is no wear on my wetsuit at all.

BSea,

Wow, 15 dives and you are already looking for a 2nd setup you've been assimilated fast!

If you don't mind me asking but what is your current setup as from your initial post it was a list for a cold water setup?

For your second setup are you looking for a travel wing and an alu plate? I think the Mach V is a great wing and just my 2 cents but I rather have a tough wing for travels than a really light single bladder wing especially if I my wing should get a hole on me after I traveled and paid good money for that special warm water trip. I would personally use the Mach V for every sort of single tank dives.

I do have 2 alternatives as I too hate to have heavy diving gear when traveling.

1. Look out for sta-less wings like the OMS 32 singles wing which has in built sta rods in the wing, is double bladder so all you might need is the rubber plugs from DSS to secure your wing to the plate.

2. Get a lighter STA to go with your Mach V wing. The Hammerhead light weight sta is 1 kg already. I made mine outta 2mm steel (150g) or you could get a alu sta from ebay. I remembered Mo2vation selling some a while ago.

Cheers,

SangP

It is just a bent piece of metal. I have their aluminum BP with no handles. I also got the split STA set up. Dive Rite bands work fine. The harness kit they shipped with it is fine. The webbing is good quality and all in all why pay more. The bent bottom edge is a nice touch as well. N
