I bought their 'cold water special' with the harness kit. Nice stuff and good price. The carry-handle cut-outs aren't really that useful. The multiple mounting holes for moving the wing up or down on the plate are great though.

reall when you think about it... its a peice of metal, cut to size and bent.. then holes are put in it :S... if you want something in between go for a Dive Rite SS from leisurepro... 100 bucs... not a DSS but i like mine :)

either way... hammerhead has definet selling point... she's hot :D

That's my point Kray_Z. If it's just a piece of metal, does it really make any differance? The fact that they include an STA all for $100 seems like the best deal going for a new backplate.

Thanks airsix for confirming what I thought about the handles. They look kind of uncomfortable to use when a tank is attached.

I've talked to one of the owners, and as many guys have figured, the handles weren't meant to be used to lift it with the tank/s attached, well, unless steel gauntlets are your kind of style.

I had thought the $100 for a the backplate and STA was a steal too, but if you're putting together a whole rig and not just getting the plate, the Deep Sea Supply rig is tough to beat for $445 (with one-piece harness).

hammerhead backplate and sta: $100
oxycheq sig series wing: $280
make your own single piece harness: $20
cam bands: $20
extra $20 for shipping since you'll be getting these from multiple places

adds up to $440

They are available with our without the handles. Solid backplate and the STA is a beast. You can buy a Dive Rite Wing for $200. Which knocks $80. off your comparative analysis with DSS.

Does anyone know if Hammerhead is currently SHIPPING product?

Here's the system I have in mind.

Hammerhead Plate $100

Oxycheq Mach V Wing $257 From Scuba Toys with the 10% Discount

I'm waiting on a quote for the oxycheq adjustable harness from scuba toys. Worst case $99

Deluxe cam straps $60

Medium Weight Pockets $52

Total $563 + Freight

And I guess I'll have to see if Hammerhead is shipping back plates. Otherwise this will be about $50 more for the STA from another vendor.

I have the Hammerhead cold water kit, SS bp & sta w/about 150 dives.. about 10lbs there. Quite a few divers in my area have them, great deal (and no handles). They were shipping up to about 2mo ago, that was the last new one I saw around here.
