I just don't log dives
Had first day of re-cert yesterday (4-15). Got NAUI certified 25 years ago while in the Philippines while doing my 4 in the Navy. Did a few dives there but I guess my priorities were quite mixed up, so I went off in a different direction. I decided to make it happen again. Taking a PADI course with my lds, and I've been thinking the whole time that I would pay attention of course, 'cause pobodys nerfect, and I remember most of my training from 25 years ago, but, I was 21 yr. old the first time and the 200 swim this time really kicked my ***. It was so much easier back then. I was afraid of nothing and had energy and stamina unsurpassed by most. I knew I was out of shape, I just didn't realize how much. It went well though, kinda' like riding a bicycle, but what a difference 25 years makes!

Don't be so hard on yourself. I see the "nintendo/mcdonalds" generation and we older folks can keep up fairly well. I do run into the 20's that outrun, climb and jump me. Overall though you will find that if you workout o a regular basis you can keep up with them. However at 36 yro when I take a hard fall I feel it for days whereas back in my 20's i'd just bleed, laugh and jump up the next day checking out the cool scar.

If you had a problem with the swim, do something about it. Get in shape, it will help your diving.

Exactly. It was a real wake up call.I guess driving a truck all day and working on my home based business sitting behind the computer all evening took more of a toll on me than I thought. Joining the gym and watching my diet.

similar experience here.....got back into diving after a long absence(18 years) and realizing how much I missed it, it was the perfect and only motivation to get me to finally put down the cigarettes after 16 years of smoking....now, if I could only get rid of that spare tire hanging around, life would be that much better!...keep up the good work and put them kids to shame!

Hey Orlando Eric. Do you frequent Archie's? We stopped at Ft. Pierce on the way down to the Keys a few weeks back. One night. Took a stroll and happened up on the place. Met lots of nice folks (seemed like a local place as well) Ate, listened to the band and drank a couple of adult beverages. It was a great way to get our vacation started as we were headed down to do our CO dives and get certified.

Got the bug,
Randy

Tracker,

I'm right there with you except a slightly different time freame. I got my PADI cert in Sept 1969. Made over 150 dives in 1969 and 70. Then gave up diving till just 3 years ago. Let's see, 33 years. And yes, things have changed just a tad. Man we didn't even have SPG's back then let alone computers.

I took a full course for a refresher (safety idea) and remembered most everything. Learned a couple new things. One thing hasn't changed though. I'm totally relaxed when I hit the water. Sharks don't upset me, depth is a piece of cake. I got 100 dives in Florida or south in the last 2 1/2 years. Can't stand cold water and the lack of viz.

I will say this. Much more emphasis on safety, and a lot more gadgets to play with.
