Whale shark in Phiphi, Thailand

5 Meters long whale shark been frequently spotted in Phiphi island the last months and this week.I was lucky 3 days ago to swim around for 8 mins with the 5 meters long whale shark with my Dsd student from Norway in Bida Nai.

Wow....great pics!
Actually I was in Ao Nang last week and did a day's diving off Bida Nai & Nok - vis of at least 15m and the water was very calm (unusually). There were actually dolphins nearby during our SI (have never seen these ever in Thailand) and I was really impressed with the amount of stuff down below. This was so different to when I was here in 1997....but back then I was a newbie diver then so couldn't get my stuff together!

I was diving deep at Chumphon Pinnacle (off Koh Tao in the Gulf) back in 2001 and spent my time looking at the bottom. When we surfaced from the dive many of the divers were really excited that a whale shark had been swimming with them at much shallower depths. I guess it pays to look up occasionally since I never saw it! Didn't get to see any when I was diving Phi Phi the same year. Nice pix!
