I can hardly believe the audacity these killers must have to protest against witnesses of their crime and act like they're the victims.

What crime?

Its legal and its part of the culture.

Different cultures will have different views on what should and should not be eaten.

For instance - many people where I live now are Buddhist and are disgusted by the western habit of eating lamb, veal and other baby creatures. Far better to let the animal have a life before eating it.

Cheers,
Rohan.

Im supprised this incident wasnt in Norway (yes, its happened here too IIRC).

When a tour guide take you into the areas where people actually hunt whales, what the hell do you expect to see? The captain on the whaler petting the creature??
Its like jumping infront of a moving car and sue him for hitting you afterwards...

Another thing is that the whales hunted (atleast here) is not endangered species either and wether or not there are enough individuals to keep up the hunting are constantly being considered.

For the record, you should consider what your perfume might be made of, especially if its an expencive one..

If its sad that someone kill a whale, why isnt it sad when you kill bambi?

Thats a smalwael dolphin sort i see no idea about the population. The spearhunting is

me known as part off the japanese kulture as religion and they will not let it...

wail flesh is not bad,i mean its against else seafish very good food.

In Europe we have Dolphos in the Meditetrean sea as hughe turtels and Pig as Narwales

in the Eurpean northern and Eastsea as a speacial from the Irish Fiecoats to Greenland

(Danemark) the horned Finwale is a nice frindley wale living i groups to 15 anilmas

This probably is going to take some time, with the younger Japanese generation not wanting to eat whale meat. But if the whales are still around, eventually its not going to be cost effective to hunt whales.

Lock Washer

Lock Washer is right, it will take time. As soon as the whales are all gone the whaling will stop.

First of all, industrial whaling (the kind of whaling the article depicts) is purely commercial and was started in Japan by Jura Oka 1898. After World War II, as part of the Marshall Plan, the USA built the six-ship whaling fleet (the largest whaling fleet in existence today) that Japan uses now.

Second of all, commercial whaling has been ILLEGAL ever since the International Whaling Commission, a body of which Japan is a member country, passed a moratorium on it in 1986. The whalers say they kill whales (they killed over 500 whales last winter when the quota was 900) for "scientific research" and then publish reports saying that whales eat fish, which has been known for decades.

Whaling has been a way of life and commerce since we started using tools and wether you sell the meat to other people as food or you eat it yourself (good luck eating a 10 metric ton animal yourself) its still very much used as just that, food...
Other whale products are used as well, for example to make perfumes, so you should be careful before flinging rocks. The house you sit in might be built of glass without you even knowing..

Don't forget, the japanese people are very smart, clever, and a deviant people. Just look at their explaination. Scientific whaling, BS!! Did you know when they surrendered in WW2, the emperor didn't say the word "we surrender" but "we stop" the war and etc. Look at the people in Hiroshima, sure it was sad the bomb was dropped on them but did they even bother to look about 4 years back as to why the bomb was dropped, namely the Bombing of Pearl Harbor? Anyways, japanese people, can't live with them, can't live without them. Has the Japanese apologize for the mal-treatment of POWs, Chinese, Vietnamese, and etc when they conquered those lands and did experiments on them? And today, just look at our TV, cars, electronics, and etc. Japanese people, can't live without them, can't live with them.

RoyN: If Hiroshima was "self inflicted" so was WTC and I dont think thats a smart path to start walking down..
