Wetsuit thickness for South Australia diving?

I'm moving to Australia in a month and was wondering about water temps and what thickness wetsuit would be best. I will be living in the Sydney area and then moving to Adelaide after 18 months. Any tips would be great, everyone else I've asked about the water temps have given me drastically varying answers, anywhere from 'similar to Hawaii' to 'the same as Southern California'.

And despite what you'll hear from a guy called O-ring, stay away from that Fosters crap. In Sydney you'll be drinking either Tooheys New or VB. Maybe Carlton Cold.
