I'm planning a camping trip to western NC in August. My dive budy and I would like to squeeze in a dive if possible. Does anyone know of good sites in lakes, rivers, quarries, etc.? Also, what is the availability of local dive shops in the area?

Don Burke:

Like that link, going to try diving White Lake.

As for additional dives in WNC, try Bluestone Dive Quarry in Thomasville

Wonderful full service quarry with multiple sunken sights & goodies.

If in Central NC try Fantasy Lake in Wake Forest.

Headed there in 2 weeks to complete a few students checkout dives. Very nice facility as well.

Plan on decking out in full wetsuit (or even drysuit) gear. I just got off the phone with Dave from Capital (fantasy lake shop) & 75 feet is about 45 degrees...in JULY.

Have a safe time!
