Aloha,

We're planning the May vacation. I was hoping for a trip to somewhere exotic, but it's not in the cards this year, so we're going to Maui. We've done Kihei, the Haiku area, and now we're going to do west Maui. I'm seeing LOTS of condos listed on VRBO.com. For anyone with local knowledge, are there any condos with reasonable, doesn't have to be spectacular, diving right out front? I'm just looking for something to piddle around in first thing in the morning on days I don't have morning plans.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I can't answer your question, but if you PM me the address/area of a few of your prospective condos, I can let you know how far from decent diving each is ...

Aloha, Tim

:11:....Maui isn't exotic???...;)

We stayed at the Mahana and really liked it. I did not dive out front other people were snorkeling. Old airport beach is about 1/4 mile walk down the beach.

To Tim... I'm staying at the Napili Shores. I'm not sure if there's any diving right there, but I'm hoping there's something relatively nearby. My wife's even up for a little shore diving these days.

To Leesa... I'm getting spoiled living here, when you live 2 miles from Kealakekua Bay, Maui just doens't seem all that particularly exotic ... we were thinking maybe taking 19 days and hitting Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk .... or trying Fiji or Tahiti... then reality set in and we realized we could do 8 days on Maui for the price of one plane ticket to the other spots. Next year maybe?

Are there any small operators out of Lahaina? We want to do a trip to Lanai, and by the descriptions of the dives on Extended Horizons website, it appears their bottom times are scary short (unless they are true flat profiles) for the money.

Gotta go to Oregon to find that exotic stuff. Hey last week I found two beer bottles on a boat ramp. Pretty cool huh?

Napili Shores is right on Napili Bay - I have not dove there yet, but have been told it's near identical to Kapalua Bay (Which I have dove about 1/2 mile north) - this means, unless the surf is up, easy entries, decent coral formations - considered a beginning Scuba site. May also be decent for night dives.

Aloha, Tim

P.S. I am the night guard at Napili Shores- so if ya see me give a hollar (no beard at the moment)
