Congrats, hopefully he is mature enough to handle this large responsibility.

My 12 year old just finished his AOW. Makes you just beam from ear to ear. Just teach him safety first and he will be fine. Tell him congrats!!

I'm jealous. I have to wait another 4 years before my oldest boy can strap on a tank. He and my 2.5 year old love the water, and love to tinker with my gear. I can't wait!

Congrats!

congrats... i just got mine around 10 weeks ago and im the same age :)

Just curious--if you had a heart attack/stroke underwater, do you believe your son has the strength and stamina to get you to the surface and possibly kick you a good ways back to the dive boat while giving you rescue breathing?

I would suggest having another adult ,or someone more competent to dive with you and your kid until he's old or strong enough(physically and mentally) to handle an emergency.

Probably just as good as some of the instabuddies I've had, including the last one that had two people help her up the ladder.
