Hello,

Well my fellow photographers it's official, nikon released that they are droping the niknos line of cameras. For several years now there's been vast rumors of this being the case but in each of those it was some crapy dive shop who refused to get correct information. In this case it is true, for the official statment see

Maybe it's time to buy a Nikonos body? Reading between the lines, I'd guess that Nikon would bring out a digital camera next, but whether it'd be any kind of real replacement for the rugged SLR is not certain.

Hello,

Well I have been wanting all the nikonos cameras and I guess I better hurry before the $ jumps drasticaly. The RS was a joke, no one wanted to spend the high $ for a piece of junk.

Ed,
Given that this isn't life support/critical equipment, I'd give serious thought to buying one online thru ebay. I see one Nikonos V with lens that failed to get a bid at $100! I'd send email to the seller and see if s/he still had it and wanted to sell...

Here's a list of preivous sales (there's not much being sold right at the moment), so you can get an idea of what Nikon U/W stuff goes for. Notice that this is a link to the first of 7 pages matching Nikonos. Button on the bottom'l get you to the next page...

Ebay Search

Another online source shows around $1500 for a new one. You could buy two on ebay and throw one of them away or keep it for parts at that rate. Then take a vacation with what's left over. :D

hello,

Yes i've very familar with ebay  and like you said i'm very skeptical buying life support equipment (i.e. regulators) but cameras I have been looking at.

Ed

I dont see why the slander against ebay as a source for regulators.
If you get it new and in the box then so what?
If you get it used then its always worth while getting it serviced before use.
