TLDR;
My LDS is saying they can't service my 1st and 2nd stage reg without also servicing my Air2, which I just purchased from them (from their certification fleet). Is this normal?
The
long version:
A few weeks ago, I bought a used bcd with an Air2 Octo from my LDS. I assumed the bc and octo were all set with servicing. I paid significantly more for this than I would have on eBay/Letgo/CL/OfferUp because I wanted to support them and I know the dive business is hard.
I also just purchased a used 1st and 2nd stage from a local guy on Letgo and took it to my LDS for servicing. They told me they couldn't service the 1st/2nd without also servicing my Air2 at the same time. Something about pressure testing with everything attached that I didn't fully understand. I said I was confused because I just purchased the bcd from them and assumed the Air2 Octo had been serviced. They said it had not.
So, in addition to the higher purchase price of the bcd, they won't service the 1st/2nd without also doing a full-service on the Air2 I just purchased from them, which adds $30-$60 to the cost of the bcd which I could have bought, unserviced, on eBay for 1/2 price.
So, my questions are:
- Is it normal for a LDS to sell unserviced, used equipment?
- If so, is it normal that they don't tell you it needs servicing?
- Is it required for a LDS to service all regs at the same time and not just the 1st/2nd?
- If you buy a used 1st/2nd and get it serviced, is there some danger in not also servicing the Octo at the same time, assuming it has been serviced recently?
Thanks in advance for replies. I'd really like to trust my LDS but this isn't a good look. Maybe I just don't understand how it works. :|
