2) give u something to hold on to when lifting the tank.
3) double as pumpkin holders for uw carving
4) prevent tanks from rolling around on smooth surfaces
5) make a great fruit bowl for after diving get togethers.

Seriously though... this is the first time that I've heard this. I guess I need to get to a DIR-F class.

The tank boot I was referring to I was not clear on, sorry. I was talking about the one with the weight integrated 5 pounds. It would be less on my belt. As for where I live, I'm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was told to buy a steel tank and that would help by my instructor. He wouldn’t let me borrow weights to work on trim, I had to rent or buy. fortunately, he was out rental weights because of needing it for open waters so my only option was to buy. So I bought what he told me to use:

1. 2- 5 pound black rubber coated weights on the tank straps of the BC. One strap flipped over to put the weight on the other side for even distribution.

2. A weight belt with 16 pounds of black rubber coated lead.

Dang that stupid lead is expensive, 3 bucks a pound! Oh well, no one said scuba was cheap! Oh, he also commented on my back plate rigging. He said I have to cross the shoulder straps so that it holds on to my shoulders better and won't slip off to the sides. Something about how it is way sturdier and won't move around so much. Do any of you do that? I'm using it the way it came from the factory. Thanks for your help guys, you are a great source of good info. and I appreciate your kind suggestions, and your positive criticism.

Yeah, that is fortunate...for someone.

You got a great deal on a lot of weight options man! As you get more comfortable and experienced you'll trim more and more of that away, depending on how you have it distributed you may find that your gadgetry is a godsend or a curse. You will buy more choices and options of weight placement technology as you continue in your diving endeavors. If you go all out and start diving doubles one day it will be with sweet irony that you discontinue the use of most/all of your items and they collect dust in your basement until you convince your neighbor/brother-n-law/co-worker/etc to take up the sport and of course offer to help set him/her up with some "excess gear" you have acquired through the years....Or go E-bay!

There are some great pictures of the DIR equip set up on the BAUE sight, this is the best harness shot I could find there. Someone probably have better source for you though.

I'm not certain I would continue to dive in a manner and with a shop that didn't co-exist in a synergistic way. IE I hang out at the shop to meet buddies and tell dive tales, if it costs me $100+ a visit to stay "in the clique" I find somewhere else.

You dont wanna use a weighted tank boot cause it will bring you hips down and mess up your trim, you wanna be horizontal.

Your shop sucks. Try to find another one Im all for LDS but this one realy sounds bad. Play hard to get with them tell them of the great deal you found online or something.

Can't find it right now, but another poster said that his rig came with the straps crossed. It was real difficlt for him to get into and out of until he changed it to the more "conventional" rigging as see on the link another poster provided above...

It's funny, but originally, I actually porsted "Cancun Mark". When I checked to see if the link worked, I noticed that it was actually "cancun mark". So, I did a quick edit!
