You could easily and cheaply convert that to a DIR harness.

I can't see any way you'd be able to use that for sidemount.

Hi mate, so to clarify im wearing the weight belt on top of the harness waistbelt and crotch strap. I figured its safer this way if i needa ditch it.

I think my second question is in the long run does not having a DIR BCD matter?

I would really recommend, on your next 2 or 3 dives, spend the time to make sure you are not over weighted. With your tank at reserve pressure and your wing empty, you should be neutral at the safety stop. This is known as a "balanced rig". If you get this part right, you shouldn't ever need to ditch weight. Even in a total loss of buoyancy, you can still swim up. Once you stop worrying about ditching weight, you can integrate most / all of the weight (that you would need to stay down) into the rig itself: steel backplate, steel STA, battery canister for your dive-light on your waist strap, etc.

I think the issue is more that the dump valve seems to be on the wrong (/non-DIR) side?

I wouldn't worry too much about the harness style for now if it works for you, but just be aware that rear dump valve should be operated with the left hand under DIR philosophy.
If you get muscle memory going for the right side to dump air, might be hard to correct that habit later.

The risk of losing a weight belt is greater than the risk of it being hard to ditch imo.

I used to use two buckles on my nylon weightbelt when I was into tech. I've had rubber belts tear in half suddenly from a nick on the edge.
