ScubaNorth:

My first time there, so I can't talk from years of experience. We saw a lot of small lobster on our two dives, not a single big one(surprisingly) and only grabbed three keepers between us. Just a guess, but I'd say there's better places on Cape Ann if you're looking to go bug hunting. Good luck.

Yeah we decided to bag it for today and head to the South Shore tomorrow instead and just dive North facing beaches. Hope everyone had a productive weekend. I need to get a few keepers tomorrow or I better come home with a sand dollar recipe.

Hit Folly again today.....no torpedo ray but a group of Dog fish came in??? Haven't seen that before in there...in fact that 's the first time i've seen dog fish while diving!

Winds created a little chop in the cove on the first dive. They died down by the time we did our second dive.

All in all another good day in Folly.

Well, yesterday was rather interesting in Plymouth. Nausea prevailed, on the boat, and in the water. Big-time surge made bug collecting a rather physical sport. Viz was 1.5 tickle sticks. I followed my flag-toting buddy back to the boat, and even though I still had 1400 #'s of air left, I was pumped when I heard him say "I'm soaked" (he dives dry). Like me, he was also fighting the "urge to purge" thru the regulator.

Got 2 nice keepers, but gave them to my buddy as I couldn't contemplate eating anything after that. :shakehead

Nice conditions, just a little swell coming in, no problem getting in or out. Almost no wind at all, and no chop whatsoever. Our first dive at this pretty & easy spot. Managed to get about 33 feet of depth, temps were 55, vis about 12 feet. Just small lobsters; plenty of other stuff to look at. We followed the rocks out towards the right (bearing abt 70 degrees from the beach). We'll be back.

I dove Brant Rock today and found out why the rock part is in the name. Crawled in over the rocks at low tide. Snorkeled out past the sand and then snorkeled some more looking for a sign of Viz. We had decent Viz 12-15 feet in the hunting grounds but not a lot of bugs at home today. The eggers were plentiful but only one keeper between the two of us. We then had the joyful experience of crawling out over the rocks again. We decided to save the second tank as the work in and out had about done us in for the day. Even the stripers were out in deeper water today.

I could have saved you the trouble...Brant Rock at low tide is not worth the effort!

Brant Rock is doable at low tide, you just have to stay on the right side of the jetty (looking towards the ocean) at the bottom of the stairs. The left side is an ankle-twisting invitation.

I enjoy Brant Rock a lot, but do prefer to snorkel if it's right at low tide. But having enjoyed two dives at Brant with Yak, the second finishing right a low tide, I'd say he's right it's "doable". It did have the sensation of being in a aquarium, which was neat (viz that day was probably 20ft). Though, you're not gonna see more that 10 feet in depth at low tide (that's why I just strap on the snorkel). Upside is you are in/under the water for over an hour on a steel 72! As a side note, I did enjoyed the PBR's over at Haddad's afta!!

cheers
