And while the bay Islands have felt the effects of some storms lets not get worked up about hurricanes as it has been like 12 years since Roatan had to deal with its last hurricane, hurricane Mitch in 1998. They are not common

Wasn't there an evacuation of the island due to a hurricane over labor day in 2007?

They did evacuate much of the Island because of Hurricane Felix way on out there and a lot of folks were ticked off, funny thing is they moved many through the mainland and closer to the storm path, Felix hit the Nica Honduran mainland boarder area, During this storm there was minimal rain and damage to the Bay Islands with Roatan dealing with 50mph gusts as the bands passed over, while there have been tropical storms and weather issues related to hurricanes, to the best of my knowledge, no storm has been hurricane strength in the bay islands since 1998.

I'm sure every one is accurate on their reports on actual named hurricanes. However, there are tropical storms that also occur that interupt diving during this time of year. They don't happen every year by any means but they do occur with enough frequency that rates for nearly all Roatan resorts, along with hundreds in other tropical areas, are reduced during this season of the year. Tourism is so poor at that time in some areas that resorts sometimes offer guarantees for return visits if a storm does come about.

I have personally traveled in early August and mid October because the rates are usually lower but I try to avoid travel during the times between. I once booked a trip to Bonaire (well out of the hurricane belt) in October but couldn't get there because of a hurricane headed for Florida so no planes were flying. You never know. I would never recommend someone not travel during this time but they should know storms are more likely just as they are in much of the tropics on this side of the world.

Anthony's lowest rates are during this time of year.
