Just don't lift the power inflater up as far as it will go while holding the button on the inflater. Security may frown on that. :D

I had considered doing it, since on the TSA website it says that you can carry on all SCUBA gear with the exception of knives and spearguns. Tanks are allowed if they are empty and have the valve removed for inspection.

I ended up not doing it because, unless you are leaving from a location where there is constant diver travel, the TSA screeners are complete idiots and don't know what half the stuff is. Leaving Long Island, NY I was stopped to have my bag checked because my regulators were "suspicious" looking. The camera also bothered them and the checked that as well. When I was leaving from Orlando they could care less about the regulators and the camera.

how many here have done it already and how many of you are willing to do it? :D

My first question would be what do you intend to do with it once you're ready to board?

Wearing a BCD on a plane while sitting on a plane would likely be uncomfortable. If you can't fit it into your carry on, I'm not sure I'd want the unprotected BC squished into an overhead compartment for fear of it getting pinched or a valve broken on it.

I've taken my BC as a carry-on on couple of occasions with a small regional airline - there was an issue about check-in luggage weight limits and I had to "rearrange" at the last minute. I didn't actually wear it but slung it over my shoulder and the staff didn't count it as a second bag.
