Grand Bahama Island, October 13 thru 27

The only hiccup in our trip was our flights. We used to love flying with Airtran. We would leave Rochester at 6am and arrive in Freeport about 11:30am. Our tickets had already been purchased. Well, Airtran didn't tell us, we found out from freinds on the Island that Airtran would no longer be servicing Grand Bahama Island. We had to find other flights. We ended up on US Air. The tickets cost more, and we arrived about 2 hours later. Other than the later arrival we were happy with our flights.

We have 2 one week memberships at Ocean Reef Yacht Club and Resort When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. They had been making a lot of changes. The place was already nice, so it was great to see them making improvements!! The nicest surprise was the massage chair in our living room. Not one of the cheap ones like in the mall. I enjoyed that chair daily for the whole 2 weeks. (note: The massage chairs are only in the larger suites) The staff at ORYC is awesome!! Helpfull, freindly, Almost like family. Several came out from behind their desks to hug us and welcome us home!

After settling in, we went to The Pub in port Lucaya for Awesome Fries, It's one of our favorite luches when we are there. Steak Fries covered with Chili, Cheese, and Jalapeños.

I don't want to bore you with a daily blog so we'll speed it up.

Derek and his wife joined us on this trip. Freinds from Boston came down for one of the weeks. We also met up with a couple that we dived with last year. They'll be joining us again next year. Yes, we're already planning next year!! :D

We dived with Grand Bahama Scuba. As always Fred and Melinda are great to dive with. If you are a newbie, or a seasoned pro, you'll have an awesome time diving with them. It's great to get up in the morning and take a short walk from our room to the dive boat. Grand Bahama Scuba is right on site at ORYC. Our gear is stored in a buiding right by the dock.

Dive sites ranged from 12 to 15 feet at Silver Reef (one of the prettiest reefs there) to 104 feet at Theo's wreck. water temp was 82f for the whole 2 weeks. Conditions ranged from 2 to 3 foot seas to one day we had 6 to 8 foot seas. Vis on most days was 100' plus. We enjoyed a pleasant mix of wrecks and reefs.

We saw a lot more Lionfish this year!! It's getting so I think twice before going into tight spaces. Other than getting a good picture I want to keep my distance from them.

I always enjoy diving with the Sharks. I'm always trying to get a better/closer Picture.

Some of my pics are Here
I still have more to add.

I had a great Birthday while we were there. 2 dives in the morning, Dinner at Simply Native, and Desert at Shenanigans. :D

My wife did good at the Casino!! I did the first two times, but not the third and fourth time.:(
