Is there a waterproof box app 7"x3"x2" that can be taken to depth?
Thanks
Jim C

Thought it might be a good idea if diving in the gulf or ocean you could take a radio down w/you. if you come up to far from the boat you could radio to them. or if you were close enough inshore telephone.

interesting

will you be doing a trial run? let me know how it goes

Yeah easily, although I'd recomend that you use a tube with conical ends past 60 feet, that way you can save on material and weight. Also keep in mind that any of the plastic waterproof boxes are likely to be ambient preasure boxes, meaning that electronics can and will crush (some electronics that are not designed for high preasure use will shatter at +1atm, such as reed switches, some speakers will also not work well at depth because of preasure... they will sound flat and depending on the depth they will cease to work all together)

I recommend that if you use an ambient preasure container such as a plastic box that you oil compensate the box.

Keep in mind that if you oil compensate, your box is likely to be closer to neutral.

Now, if you want a 1atm box you can do that with acrylic... you can buy that at any craft store you want to. Just make a form with a plug in it and pour your acrylic + hardner in it and warm it appropriatley (I have an oven for doing just that, but if you do it make absolutley sure that your oven is outside and that you never exceed the temperature for whatever brand of acrylic you buy... (you can exceed the temp for some meathods but don't try until you know why and when)) You "bake" the acrylic for strength and so that the acrylic is nice and clear... also, you MUST cool your acrylic container very slowly to avoid bubbles.

Next the hatch or access panel should be placed on a gasket that's been bonded to your container and hand tightened on screws that have that smooth shaft on them... because once you hit below 15ft the preasure of the water will hold your hatch or access panel on better than the screws will. with the smooth shaft this will allow it to compress without shattering at the screw holes.

I'd tell you the easiest, cheapest way to have a waterproof box... a 8-D cell flashlight. See if you can find a radio that fits in a flashlight housing and you have a secure, inexpensive solution that would take hundreds of feet of depth. and with the reflector removed, you can easily see in the bezel to assure yourself it's staying dry.

what about making a container out of pvc piping? if constructed properly that should hold a seal to pretty great depths.
