The problem of taking a camera underwater when diving is not simply one of keeping the camera dry. The pressure exerted on the camera surface at 66 feet is more than 44 pounds per square inch, three times the pressure on the camera at the surface!
The housing keeps the camera dry AND provides pressure protection. The "waterproof" plastic bags do not provide any pressure protection.
Next time you dive, put a merangue in a ziplock freezer bag. Watch it turn to powder at 66 FSW.
Do you want to see the same thing happen to your camera?
