Going to Oahu and Molokai over New Years and need to figure out which wetsuit to bring ------------ what is the average water temp over there? Thanks!

when i stayed on oahau i wore a 3-2 full wetsuit and was comfortable. i regularly dive so. cal in a drysuit and do not like being cold!! a few of the divemasters wore 5 mil full suits but i felt that was overkill!! i bought a 3-2 mil over there for 80.00 after diving in a 3 mil shorty. after cutting my knee on coral while taking a picture i went to the full suit!!

depends on how cold you get. I live here and wear a 5mil year round. I just started getting cold so now I will have to go to a 7mil. I get cold fast though. You could get away with a 2-3mil or 3mil. I started out with a 2-3 my first year here and each year went up one mil. Suppose when we move and actually dive in cold water I will have to get a dry suit.

Al Mialkovsky:
Year after year, I found the average in summer was 77° down around 100' and 72° in the winter unless somehting cold rolled in.

In May our computers showed 78 degrees past 100 feet consistently. We get closer to 81 in the summer.

Al, I would agree with Tom. 72 at the coldest last winter, right after the Tsunami it dropped like three degrees in a day. There are some thermocline type currents by Spitting cave side from converging currents or something. So, 72 at the coldest would be what I would outfit for. I use a 3mm but around this time, go into a 5mm. And I use a hood year round. I keep hearing Maui people putting the water warmer and I am wondering if it could be a few degrees warmer over there...

I look at my dive profiles there from my smartcom and honestly I haven't seen a thermocline at any sites on Maui. I know it was as low as 72 last winter but that was a cooler than normal winter.
