we are coming out in 2 weeks, diving on Great Escape for 2 days, plans to hit San Clemente and Catalina. So what are the water temps running this year?
Last year we came out mid-Aug and water temps at Santa Barbara and Catalina were 66-70 degrees! Much warmer than we had expected. We are planning to dive wet but just wondering if we should expect warm water like last year.

thanks!

Pretty much the same right now last time I checked!

My dive log (on my web site) lists min temps I've experienced on each dive. My recollection is that at depths of 80-90 ft here off Avalon it was upper 50's (57-59) although I had one spike of 66 at the same depth last weekend.

I was at Catalina yesterday, and every dive below about 40-50 ft the temp was in the high 50's, above 40 ft we were seeing low 60's. These were all closer to Two Harbors though.

This is useful info from the Catalina sticky thread on how to calculate what the current temps are at different depths down to 100ft .. California Diving News - How to Accurately Predict Water Temperature at Depth On Your Next Catalina Dive
using this channel buoy ... http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=46025

Using this info, the current temp is 66f at 60ft, and 60f at 100ft ... This looks very close to what Scott and DrBill reports
