My husband and I are heading down to Sarasota for a week the 1st of Dec. We would like to get some diving in and wondered what is the water temp. at that time of year?

Depends of the severity of the winter. It'll range from upper 40's to mid 60's.
I have had a lot of dives blown off because of rough seas during December and January. I am not a freeze baby and a 3 mil wet suit seemed enough. Not sure what the temp was.
Florida West dive shop in Venice is a very nice and friendly shop to deal with. They have a shark tooth dive that is great if you want to do some digging in 20 feet of water with about 10 to 20 foot vis. Plenty of teeth down there if you look carefully and dig a little.
