Sometimes after a dive, I find that a large amount of water has been retained in my nose and sinus. I don't generally have any problem from it because it drains soon after the dive, but I am amazed by the volume, maybe as much as an ounce or so. Anyone else experience this?

It sometimes happens to me, particularly if I've done underwater acrobatics and hung upside down or done somersaults, and the water inside my mask runs into my nose.

I generally don't even notice until later on the boat when it comes gushing out a half hour later as I bend over to pick something up off the deck. Probably only a half ounce or so, but even that much is pretty dramatic.

I look on the bright side --- that saline flush really cleans up my sinuses. :)

Absolutely. My mask has a seep, so I spend a lot of time with a little water in the bottom of it, and a lot of it ends up in my nose. Hasn't caused any problems to date.

I remember years ago when I first started diving that sometimes at night I'd lean forward with my head down and the old nose would run like a faucet. Got some good laughs over it. I never let it bother me.

An old remedy for some things like congestion when I was a lad was mixing salt with water and snuffing it up the old nose. Good for cleaning out the sinuses. I figure diving and getting salt water up the old nose helps keep me cleaned out just as well and I'm having fun getting that old remedy into my head.

Thank everyone for the verification that it isn’t my brains leaking out!

Barry summed it up perfectly! It always seems to happen when you’re bending over to get something out of your bag.

People just look at you strange when your nose appears to pour a perfect shot of vodka all over the deck!!!

I've experienced it after body surfing. Huge waves would tumble us around all sorts of ways when we would wipe out. Bending over to put on my shoes afterwards, a surprising amount of water came out.

I figured the saline rinse of my sinuses was a good thing, but I wasn't sure about the sand churned up in the surf lodging in there and causing some sort of foreign body reaction. As it turned out-- no harm done. Felt pretty refreshing, actually. Now when my wife says I have rocks in my head she may be right.
