.... a mask with a double skirt,
I haven't seen this before. Is there a brand/model you can suggest so I can look at it.
It makes perfect sense, just like a double O-ring on our dive canisters

Learn to keep your face expressionless and smile with your eyes, petroleum jelly works
Do not use Petroleum jelly with your mask, it is petroleum based and will disintegrate the silicone skirt on your mask. Use silicone grease.

How is water getting in at your nose if your nose is the lowest portion of the mask? Look for the leak at the high point. Your mask likely doesn't fit you correctly and you're leaking near your eyes or brow line. The only exception would be face down looking at the mud or between your legs.

Go try on masks with a snorkel or regulator in your mouth. You want the one that seals well in that orientation regardless of cost. Some people get away with cheap, some have to spend some dough...

I feel like it seals well all over, but if I smiled or did something else, I think is enough to create a small gap where the nasolabial lines are.

Check your "crows feet" that is probably where your leak is at. I have a very full mustache and beard and don't leak. I don't trim or do any other prep work for my face. Remember, water can't go in and up unless there is a place for air to escape. Routinely exhale a bit through your nose to keep mask squeeze away. Don't have your mask strap overly tight, it's only there to lightly hold it in place.
