You can get a lot of water in the bc by fully deflating.

You know, when you sit there, pressing the deflate, shaking it like mad...trying to get ALL the air out?

Water will enter through the oral inflator - and the more you do this, the more water you get.

this will go down when you get more comfy with the deflator, and your buoyancy.

This assumes, that there's no hole in the bladder, etc - it's just a problem a lot of beginners have - overdeflating..

Gogums, from your description of the comments I'm guessing we have same BC (Orion, right?). I've got about 15 pool and ocean dives on mine and I have the same thing happen. Since the hose design tends to trap air, you end up holding the deflate button longer during the initial part of your descent and you end up taking on water. As someone mentioned, it also happens when you are trying to get negative to stay anchored on the bottom. As long as you rinse with fresh water, there shouldn't be any problems.

Good guess :yelclap: !
Did my first boat dives today and with the help from this board I was able to dramatically reduce the water in the BC. Buoyancy control is improving...especially on our 2nd dive (Makaha Caverns) which allowed me alot of practice since the reef we were checking out required asending and descending from 45' to 30' and back for most of the dive...kinda like a reeeeallllly slow rollercoaster. Just awesome though!
Even though I've only used the Orion 4 times I really like it. I had to mess with the way the wing straps to the backback (seemed to loosen a bit on my previous dives) but I think I got it figured out/adjusted so it won't loosen anymore. How do you like your Orion? Thanks and Aloha!

The more dives you do, the better it will get. Practice makes perfect.

I like it fine. My only complaints are minor. The tip about leaning back when deflating really did the trick for me. Descents are much easier and I'm getting less water inside!
