Last Thursday (January 8, 2004) after 2 good dives at the Yukon, all my dive gear was stolen from my car, parked at the Scripps Aquarium in La Jolla.

Among the many items were:
- Dive Rite Transpac II with Travelwing. This BC is customized and has a removable waist-belt which is attached to the harness with 2 sliders.
- Aqualung Legend LX Supreme regulator with TUSA octopus and Aeris 300G computer/gauge/compass.
- Sea & Sea YS-50 strobe with plate, Sea Arm, lens caddy and 1:2 macro lens (the camera itself was not taken)
- Spare Air 3000 (yellow)
- Princeton Tec Surge divelight (green)
- Large Ikelite pistol divelight (yellow)
- Deep Sea 3mm gloves XL (black)
- Tusa Liberator X-ten fins L or XL (yellow): one fin has a tear in the top side of the foot pocket.

I anyone sees any of these items or has any information that may help locate the gear and/or the thieves please send me a PM or notify your local police.

Wow, that s*&ks, ScubaRon. My sympathy goes out to you. Will your auto insurance help with the cost?

ScubaRon,
Sorry to hear about the theft. Was your gear insured? If so, please post how difficult / easy it was to get the claim taken care of.

Holy cow! Certainly sad to hear...

Please give more info...

Was it tucked hidden in a place external visitors to the car couldn't see? Or out in the open? Do you have any dive stickers on your car?

Hope you can get some insurance money out of it....Good luck!

I as well am wondering about insurance car insurance home owners or DAN.

My dive gear insurance is through DEPP and included flood insurance for my camera. It says it covers theft, but curious how quickly they would deal with a claim.

Thanks for the sympathy. eBay and many other sites are being watched. It turned out that my home owners insurance covers the gear, so the financial damage it limited to my deductable, which is a big relief.

However I am still mad: the BC, reg, spare air and some of the smaller items were a birthday present from my wife and only 3 months old and had only been used 4-6 times.

The gear was in 2 bags in the back of a rental SUV. It was completely covered by a towel, a jacket and a sweatshirt so nobody could see what was in the car. However I did open the trunk to take the camera out of it's setup to take with me (which is why that was not stolen). My guess is that the thieves were watching the parking lot, saw me working with the camera and realized that it was worth something.

I like to see these guys in jail, so please let me - or your police - know if you hear or see anything about this.
