I was wondering if there were really different sizes of spare air...

I want two small ones. One for either side of my tank. That way it'll look like the space shuttle.

I saw the title and 12 replies so I was looking forward to some entertaining reading.

you know, I've never seen anyone on a dive boat that actually had a spare-air....

How often have others here actually seen someone with one on their BC?

Yet people are buying them. They seem to disappear from the shelves in the dive shops. I've thought, seriousely, they are purchased by non diving spouses or parents and the diver does not want to return it?
(when I was a kid, my mom bought me bang stick which attached to my cylinder to protect me from sharks and giant squid. I always carried it when she was on the boat)

There were a couple of divers with the itty bitty ones on a charter out of Monterey this weekend. These same divers surfaced out of air about 250 yards from the boat through a field of fairly thick kelp. The boat had to pick up anchor and plow through the kelp to rescue them after watching them struggle to get back to the boat in vain for about 5 minutes.
