In case you are not already aware, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will be placing multiple 600'-long hooked lines on the U.S. side of the St. Clair River and lower Lake Huron off the city of Port Huron Michigan starting Wednesday, May 21st, 2025 and ending June 13th, 2025. This is a 20+ year long program, the purpose of which is to catch spawning endangered sturgeon, weigh them, measure them, tag them, and collect some of their eggs and milt for restoring sturgeon in other rivers. This Youtube video explains the process:
Each 600' long line contains 50 sharp steel hooks about the size of your hand, and divers are warned to stay clear of these if you see them, as getting hooked on one underwater could be fatal. The lines are anchored to the bottom with steel claws and the start and end of each line are marked with large orange buoys. The attached map shows where the setlines will be located for the 2025 season.
