Just thought I would let you all know that I bought a Nitek Duo back in May of this year, did 14 dives on it and then one day before diving, while getting ready to dive I was putting on my computer and there was a flashing "E" on the screen. I reset the machine and pulled the battery but it did not help the "E" was still there and I was unable to use my computer. I had a local dive shop call Dive Rite and explain the situation and they said send it back and we will fix it "We have seen this before"?!?!? I got my computer back 2 weeks later did one shallow dive on the Hesper wreck in Superior the computer worked perfectly, following weekend I was at Wazee with a 190' max depth dive planned and crossing 183' I looked down to check my computer and had NO SCREEN the computer died during the dive. I was 3 minutes into my 10 minute planned bottom time dive. I turned the dive extremely angry and headed back to the line. I called Dive Rite the following Monday and spoke with Jeffery and he didn't say to much almost like "crap" this is not good. He said that they had repaired my old computer. I told him it was dead and I wanted a new one. He understood and said that it would be at least 2 weeks. I told him I didn't want to wait that long and that I would work with the dive shop where I bought the unit and see if they would exchange it. Which they did no questions asked. I was at Wazee this past weekend trying once again to do the same dive 190' max for 10 minutes. Once again at 186' I looked down to check my computer and had NO SCREEN, my brand new computer had died as well. I am telling you to use extreme caution with these computers if you have one. Obviously there is a problem and Dive Rite needs to admit to that and recall them if this is the case. I returned mine yesterday, so now I am computer less and extremely PO'd at Dive Rite.

I guess I would call Dive Rite and find out what the deal is if you have a Nitek Duo.

Better safe than sorry.

I'm getting ready to take mine to Europe for three years. Hope it isn't one with a problem. I have heard this before. There was another thread about a problem with this computer. I wonder why it seems to be only the Dive-rite and not the Tusa or Apex, which are the same computer.

I had one just stop recording a dive. Everything was zeros. Wehn I got to the surface, everything looked normal, but it did not log the last dive. Next dive, it worked fine, but I exchanged it anyway. Had no problems with Dive Rite. They asked me to do another dive on it with another computer next to it to compare. I did, and they exchanged it immediately for a new one.

My son and I each carry two computers. 3 are the duos and 1 is a quantum. I have had the quantum the longest - purchased last Fall - and have put over over 100 dives on it with most of them requiring substantial decompression. So far, I have not experienced any problems with the quantum.

Last week one of my duos experienced screen problems similar to what is described above. I thought it had something to do with the very hot weather that we had in Tobermory at that time, or the battery (even though this was a new unit). I replaced the battery with a new one but that did not fix the problem. Approximately 3 days later, the computer decided that it wanted to work again. I did not trust it however, and exchanged it for a new one.

huh, I never thought about the heat affecting it. When mine went out, it was easily 90 + air temp. The bottom temp was 46. I wonder if the drastic change affected it.

Mine was left in the truck during a very hot day (my mistake). Later on, in the zodiac getting ready for an evening dive, the computer would not allow me to change the gas settings on mixes 1 and 2. Things only started getting worse as I started to play with it. At some point the screen went blank. After I put a new battery in it (next day) the computer would scroll through the different pages on its own as I attempted to set the date/time etc. I had made up my mind at this point to trade it in for another, even after, like I said, the thing went back to normal on the third day.

A few computers "reset" themselves after 48 hours of something going wrong but 72?

Here's the thread where I first saw the Apeks Quantum problems and Dive Rite NiTek Duo problems mentioned . . .

You could try calling Dive Rite and asking for Jerry, who went by KVDiver on this board, directly as well. Jeery's post was about how Dive Rite strives to address all customer concerns - although the problem with Nitek Logic is still unresolved, for me at least . . .
