My name is John, I'm single (no dive buddy), 58 and brand new to SCUBA. I have all of 9 dives under my belt so consider myself just smart enough to know I'm stupid. I am, however, intrigued (read: addicted) to the hobby and looking to meet other divers and learn of opportunities to get in the water. I live in Ft Myers Florida having just moved here from North Dakota (which holds little hope at ever being referred to as the dive capitol of the world). I have, at this juncture, merely my OW and Nitrox certifications.

I'm looking for a dive trip over Thanksgiving (2012) at which a single, inexperienced diver (of, alas, Norwegian heritage) might find welcome.

best to all,
Diver-jt

First of all let me say welcome.
As for Thanksgiving dives, well I don't know of any off hand but that doesn't mean that one won't come up.
If my boss lets me, I'll be off for the Thanksgiving holidays and off to South Florida to do some diving.
I'll keep you in mind in case an impromptu trip develops.
A trip to Ginnie Springs to do a Galaxy Dive is also at the top of my list for the upcoming holidays.

So lets see what pans out and I'll post it here....

But I'm sure someone else on this board must have something planned for the holidays.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!
There's always diving somewhere in FL! We are a friendly bunch. :D

I'd dive with you if I lived in your area (I'm 59.) But I have to ask, is there something inherently troublesome about a Norwegian heritage? If you're a pleasant person and not a dangerous diver, I'm pretty sure no one here cares about heritage.

Welcome.

Welcome

my grandparents were noweigan and i like lake wobewgon so i can adapt. Haha

I'm 1/4 Norwegian, and you bet it causes me problems diving!!! I love the smell of salt water but I live 300 miles from it! It's in my blood, those old norskies had no idea scuba diving would be invented so they went about their daily fishing activities to support the family, having no idea what their great granddaughter would have to sacrifice! Oh yes one more thing to say:

Takk stor bestefar og store bestemor, men hvorfor gjorde du ikke la meg penger når du døde for å betale for all min dykke utstyr?

So, I will persevere with my diving and pay homage to my ancestors, I just wish they would have emigrated to a warm water destination.

nothing wrong with a bit Norwegian heritage - i have some myself along with scottish, irish, welsh, english, cherokee, and a few others ;)

no clue on dives on your side of the state for thanksgiving but i know Gold Coast Scuba is doing a thanksgiving dive in Hollywood - 2 - 2 1/2 hr drive from ft myers also 2 or 3 boat dives on fri/sat on the copenhagen and the ancient mariner. Both the Copenhagen and Ancient Mariner are OW friendly dives

Welcome to the board!
