I'm wondering in anyone has a an old Scubapro panther spear gun 36" in good shape? Also sold as the Bandito Prowler.

Thanks,

RT

I have a couple Scubapro 36" Panthers .

The Bandito Prowler is still sold through Trident. I think the price is around $240.00

still have mine..yes I believe trident still has the gun-not called scubapro but its the same gun.We can get it here in NY.

Yep, it's a Panther, although one that's not worth much more than parts if the muzzle or guides for the bands are damaged.

I've seen worse. It'a an open muzzle design so it is possible to place the line retainer on the diver's side of the muzzle. If you shoot it that way, it will take the muzzle right off of the gun.

I see them now and the on e-bay and in good to excellent condition they bring about $75.00-$100.

I've got a nice one I was going to throw on ebay soon, it has a new shooting line/bungie, and new bands. It currently has a new trident double flopper tip on it that's only been used once for a nice halibut in Monterey. Where abouts are you in NorCal?

The Panther was Dick Bonin's baby. He seemed so proud when the gun was introduced. Yet, Scubapro gave up on guns a few years later. Bandito was offering all the old stock of Panthers for about $50 each, wholesale. Later, they added their brand to the same design. The Panther was supposed to be an improvement on the original Scubapro aluminum and wood grooved barrel guns adapted from a Wally Potts Design. Although the Panther was supposed to conquer perceived problems with aluminum and wood but was/is pretty much a dud, IMO. Originally, there were two aluminum grooved barrel guns and a rare, wood gun with the same trigger and arrow. It had the same pull length as the aluminum gun, about 42 inches. Dick thought he was smarter than Wally, I guess. Mr Potts warned Scubapro that the engagement angle of the line release on the SP gun was wrong. SP did not listen and for ever after, the SP gun had a hard trigger pull if there was any pressure at all on the line release. In 1973, I killed a 150 pound black sea bass and 312 pound Jewfish, both with that wood gun. I was so impressed with the accuracy and mid- range punch that I commissioned a custom mahogany gun from Wally, with 48 inch pull. It is deadly accurate and accounted for a number of white sea bass back in the day.
