Thanks for all the great info folks, what a great forum. Fnfalman, I do have an octo, and considered doing that, and I don't really have a great reason for not leaving the thing on there other than I don't like the fact that if I have reg issues on a trip I will be SOL because the connectors on rental regs likely won't fit (I know there are adapter but they cost almost as much as an inflator)

Don't despair if your regs conk out and you need to use rental reg. Take the LP hose off your reg and put it on your rental reg.:D

BTW, Scubapro BC with Air2 inline octos are very popular items. So chances are the dive charter would have a reg with an LP hose that takes the Air2 connection anyway. Even if they're not, it takes like half a minute to unscrew your reg's LP hose, unscrew the rental reg's LP hose and screw your LP hose onto the rental reg.

It sounds like a job that I can and will attempt myself, and I'll have the guys at my great LDS check it afterwards. I think I will wait until after my Cozumel trip early December just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again.

It sounds to me like you don't need to switch anything out at all.:eyebrow:

BTW, one would think that there are two sizes of connectors: Air2/Atomic SS1 and "regular" size. There are more like four different sizes of connectors. Some manufacturers have connectors of different sizes than others. Why? Probably so that you have to buy their own gears to hook up to their BCs.

Ps does anyone know a 7 year old kid with a set of wrenches?

Three or four and some fighter jet engine components to practice with.

I wish the dumb ass had brought home some books and a pencil instead.
