Hi!
I'll be in San Jose on a business trip ( teaching cad/cam software at Applied Materials Co. in Santa Clara ) for a month beginning next weekend and I'm hoping to hook up with others who want to dive Breakwater.

( and no, my name isn't Fred.) :11: and I'm glad to hear the warnings of this guy.

I'm an experienced diver from Boston, and I'll be bringing all my own gear except for tanks. I'd like to get night dives in as well there. I'm looking to dive evenings and weekends starting Sept 20th.

I usually dive off shore in Boston area or off my boat.

Anyway, if anyone wants to join me or can recommend a good way to meet buddies for diving Monterey, please let me know.

Thanks,
John C.

I think you are safe from "Fred" since he is mostly attracted to women divers, whether they are with a date or not. From his M/O it is unlikely he would ask you to be his buddy, unless you already had an attractive woman along with you. That is the way it seems to work with him, according to other people's descriptions (hear-say).

I'll be in monterey for a week next month from Oct 18-22 for a family vacation. I am also looking for dive buddies during that time since we will be up there on weekdays. I have dove breakwater quite a bit along with a lot of the other local sites. I am definitely game for night diving.

If you remind me if we get together I'll give you one of my "dive buddy" cards. Regards, Fred

Yes i am only kidding....lol ;) Larry

I'll just be there Sept 19th - Oct 14th. I may be back Nov 1-14th.

John, if you're up for doing a night dive the week of the 20th i'd be happy to meet up with you and dive breakwater, a great night dive spot, i leave for florida on business the weekend after that so it will have to be during the week

Great! I hope I can make it there by 6 or 6:30 pm evenings. Not sure how bad the traffic will be evenings driving from Santa Clara to Monterey weekday nights, but I guess I'm going to find out!
Will pm you next week.

...Not sure how bad the traffic will be evenings driving from Santa Clara to Monterey weekday nights...

Traffic along U.S. Hwy 101 south bound in Santa Clara County is stop and go from about 3:00 p.m. to about 7:30 p.m. all the way to Gilroy on weekdays.

Traffic along Interstate 880 & State Hwy 17 south-bound in Santa Clara county is also stop and go from about 4:00 p.m. to about 7:00 p.m. all the way to Santa Cruz. Then traffic along State Hwy 1 south bound is moderate after about 6:00 p.m. past Capitola on weekdays.

Fridays are worse.

I used to do that commute, a few years ago. The roads have not been widened in the meantime.

My suggestion is that you leave by 3:30 p.m. and go through Santa Cruz, which avoids all the problems of Hwy 101. For your return trip, 101 is fine, north bound, at those times.

I might be interested in going sometime. Send me a pm. I'd consider a night dive if I have a bulb for my light by then.
If you can get out during the week with someone go to point lobos.
