Hi,

I will be spending 3 weeks in San Francisco next month for work and is toying with the idea of making a few dives over the weekend in Monterey. I wonder what are the things that I need to bring along for the trip.

I dive mainly in tropical waters of south east asia and I am thinking of bring just my dive computer, regulator and fins for the trip and rent the rest of the gear from LDS in Monterey. Anyone able to recommend me a dive center to my dive arrangement?

Cheers,

Monterey Dive Center is my LDS of choice when I am in Monterey. They are located in Cannery Row virtually across the street from the Breakwater-a great introductory shore dive to what Monterey has to offer. You can also arrange a boat dive through them on the Silver Prince or diving with a local guide.

You might want to bring your own mask and snorkel too.

When you rent a wetsuit from here, make sure that it fits tightly, with NO wrinkles or bagginess. I was diving with a man from Germany who rented a baggy fitting wetsuit and was SHOCKED at how cold the water was. He sat out the second dive and was shivering and miserable until we got him out of the wetsuit and I lent him my boat coat.

The water here is COLD. Beautiful diving, but cold.

diveon & eastcoastgrrl I might be interested in doing a dive with you. I'll know better as we closer to the day you arrive. Send me a PM with all your info.

FYI

If your going to bring your fins be sure there not the slip on, you will need booties (my guess minimum 5mm if you get cold easily) the water stay between 50F and 55F (maybe 57F if your lucky).

Hi Tankboygreg,

Thanks for the recommendation. Will certainly checkout Monterey Dive Center soon.

Hi eastcoastgrrl & cascubabear,

I will be SF(Foster City to be exact) from 4th-22nd Sept. So effectively speaking, I can only dive on the weekend of 8th & 9th or 15th & 16th. It would be great to have you guys as dive buddies.

Cheers,
