I could be totally wrong about this, but I think I remember PK asking and/or researching that once, and found out that it couldn't be dived. I could be way off, though.

It seems to be a general problem with fresh-water bodies in Mass - not too many of them are divable or are worth diving...

Yeah, I've been trying to find a local freshwater body and have been having some difficulty. There are several ponds on the Cape Cod, but what's the point in that? It's a longer drive than Cape Ann and I can't catch lobster!

I know Cochituate Lake is also off limits for diving.

Hmm... Something different? A new experience. Different things to see (or not to see). Variety is the spice of life, y'know!

I haven't looked into freshwater diving. What's the appeal? Just curious.
Sometimes you just want to get wet and don't want to wash your gear afterwards. :)

That's why I'm interested in something very close to Waltham. It's also good for drills and such, as the bottoms tend to be ridiculously silty.

What about Lake Cochicuate, or however it's spelled, off Rt. 30 in Natick/Framingham. Somewhere I found a depth map of the lake, and it looks like it has potential.

This summer, I talked to the dude that runs the Kayak place there. He's a diver, too and said that the lake is off limits for diving because of the boat traffic and the bacteria counts.

See me show my reading comprehension skills.

Hmm... I noticed the floats demarking the swimming area were there this summer. If they allowed swimming, then they _have_ to allow diving by state law.

Of course I didn't see if there was any people actually swimming there.
