Im buying a computer this weekend no matter what! Its between the Vyper or Atmos 2. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also looking to buy a computer in the near future (my first) and I'm probably going with the Oceanic Versa Pro, which is the same computer as Atmos 2. My two reasons are the following: First, it's on sale at scubatoys.com, plus you can get 10% off with scubaboard members discount, so it comes to about $243, which I think is a good deal. I might also get the USB cable for it since there's a discount for that too if you buy it with the comp.

My other alternative is Mares M1 which you can find for $226 (with shipping), but like the Suuntos, it's much more conservative than the Aeris/Oceanic computers, which is my second reason for leaning towards the latter; I want a more aggressive computer.

The MC1, and dacor version - Darwin are much bulkier, and the numbers are much bigger on the aeris or the oceanic versa pro. Also the whole unit is smaller on your wrist, and the download, while not great software, works pretty well... If you do a search on IRIS which is the dowload for the MC1, you will hear some nightmares.

I have the Atmos 2, and like it very much. The computer download interface is easy to use and set up. I bought both at a local shop, and got a very good price (internet match). The USB interface was cheaper than other computers, also at an excellent price.

As stated above by Larry, the numbers are larger, and easy to read, also my dive partner has a Darwin and when we were diving recently, we noticed my computer had a more conservative algorithm (if that is important to you).

Well, I went with the Versa Pro from scubatoys.com because it was more liberal than the M1.

scubastore.com has a good deal on the M1 ($226 with free shipping) for those who prefer a conservative computer. I understand that it's more advanced than the Versa Pro/Atmos 2 and uses 2 AAA batteries, so you can use rechargeables. However, it's bulky and people complained about the buttons, and some other minor things. Also as mentioned the USB cable for it is an expensive POS.

I did consider the Suuntos as well, and divetank.net has good deals on those, but they are apparantly about as conservative as the M1s - and the deals I saw for them weren't as good.

Then there's of course ebay, and if you are patient, flexible and don't mind a little risk, you can find some great bargains there, but this time scubatoys.com came out ahead for me.

Personally would go with the Areis. In my book, if you are diving Suunto you might as well dive the table.

I have the Aeris Atmos 2 and love it. I dive wet and for half of the season find thick cold water gloves on my hands. The aeris has big easy to use buttons that I can use even with the thick gloves. Like Larry said, it also has big display numbers that are easy to read too.
I don't know how any of the other computers work so I cannot make any comparison, just tell you of my expierence. I frequently dive air and only occasionally use Nitrox. The Aeris is easy to put into nitrox mode and plan my dive. On a repetative dive in nitrox mode, if I don't enter the new mix, it will automatically revert to a 50% mix. I havent forgotten to set the mix yet!
The Aeris for as liberal as it is, does not ever hesitate to let me know that it thinks I am acending too fast. Sometimes, in the middle of a dive, I will need to swim over an obsticle, a deep inhale and a stout fin kick, and BEEP!, the aeris tells me to slow down. Don't get me wrong, as a fairly new diver, (just over a year), I think this is great. As I gain expierence and perfect my ability, I have found it happens less and less. I don't think it has happened in a few months.
Lastly, the computer interface leaves a little to be desired but I think it is about the same as a lot of other computers. It is very easy to set up and use, downloading is a breeze. The actual interface software leaves a little to be desired but more features mean more complicated and sometimes, at least for me, simpler is better.

In all, if I had it to do over again, I would still buy the Aeris Atmos 2

Good luck

I have the Atmos 2 and love it. The problem I have with the Vyper is that it is too conservative, don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting anyone push the NDC limits. But I want it to be my choice, not the computers, of how conservative I want to be.

I considered both computers before buying and I downloaded both manuals from their websites, that was a big help in making my decision.

basically what everyone has said on the Atmos 2 over the vyper

larger display

more realistic bottom times
