Time zones are something we will have to work out. If we can not figure out something amongst the groups. We can create regional "Round Tables"

If you have an idea or want to participate in a discussion, please let me know and we create a new discussion table.

The First Discussion is:
Solo Diving

I have 3 guests.

Looking for one more for solo diving.

I'm interested. I went straight from OW certification to solo and that is basically all I do now.

Question is how down in the weeds you want to get with the philosophical side of it, because at the end of the day it comes down to values around risk profiles and risk vs reward, etc.

I am also quite interested in this too.

As a photographer, quite a lot of my local diving is solo, and I may be able to provide a specific side to this subject.

The great thing about an open platform is to see where the conversation goes. With different perspectives, it could take a turn into many different avenues.

Values, risk profiles, and risk vs reward can vary from one person to the next. Conversations like this are great to have and are being conducted on Scubaboard. The idea now is to have a "face-to-face" in an open, hopefully civil verbal conversation.

From the responses I am getting, I think the best thing to do is branch out and open it up to regional tables. If you are interested please DM your email and I will start a group email between parties so we can find a time that works for all parties interested in participating.

That is what I find interesting. The person who solo dives regularly and considers it normal versus someone who would never consider it. Neither is right/wrong, just different perspectives. Arguing about technicalities (e.g. gear configuration) in this context is less interesting in my opinion. Regarding the round table format, it's a great idea, but needs a chairperson to steer the discussion and keep time etc. Maybe you had planned on this?

I dive so much I have no choice but to solo it. In fact now that I tec dive I really have to solo as not may dive at that level even close to me. Do I think solo is not as safe as diving with another person 100% but you can do things to lower said risk. I also like it more as I do not feel the pressure of another diver. When I am having a fun dive its just me my computer and my sac rate and NDL😂

I think you are now trying to do to much and rely on a lot of ppl. Best bet is keep it simple at first collect names and time zone/availability and match up the best fit. If not you are going to spend so much time trying to make all the tables work you will go crazy.

Yes, I would be the mediator/chairperson.

I would host and guide conversations (if need guiding). My goal would be to stay as much out of the conversation as possible. A big reason for me starting this series (and the podcast) is to meet and learn from all types of divers out there.

As this is a new thing, I have not hashed out all the details yet. I was just thinking I would need to set some ground rules. Yet to be determined.

The topics could be endless (as well as the conversations) and we could get different perspectives from different parts of the world.
