Is there any way to find out what the viz would be at Morrison before driving all the way over there? Would the dive shop at Vortex know? And if it is bad at Vortex is it safe to say it will be the same at Morrison? Have some people in from South Carolina and they want to try to dive Morrison.

Thanks

Swander, I was just there last Thursday and the viz was great (check my vid). With that said they have been getting A LOT of rain in the last couple days, like epic levels. HTH.

On the upswing, vis will hold to 8-9' in the summers when the waters aren't mixing due to temperature. On the downswing, things are different.

I would say Morrison is divable right now, even if a little tannic on the surface. Drop 10'(less than that at this point) and you'll find clear water.

If the folks at Vortex told me the sky was blue, I wouldn't believe them.

Viz at Morrison was great this past Saturday, but that was before the worst of the rain hit.

If you have the experience, there is always consistenly good diving in my experience with the cavern

But if the basin is blown out the cavern becomes a cave.

Morrison is blown out. Went there this morning with a sidemount class and ended up heading to Vortex instead. The boardwalk steps are in the water and the basin is tannic. Might be some visibility in the lower layers and definitely in the cave but that wasn't going to work out for this class since I use video and photo feedback with my students. Vortex has a lot of plant growth in it that was floating around, especially since there were some OW classes there today, but visibility was much better and I was able to get about 100 shots of my students.
