I'm planning a week of scuba diving in the Bay Islands off of Honduras. I'm told that the bugs there are horrific. No-see-ums attacking the ankles, etc...

I'm also told that if you take Vitamin B2 it will help to repel them.

Does anyone know if this is true???

I lived in the bay islands for a year and the only really effective stuff was coconut oil. Its cheap, readily available and fresh. It doesnt smell too bad either.. Buy it when you get there.

Coconut oil??? I get sun burned very easily, the oil must intestify the sun. It would be a trade off, a bad burn or mosiqito bites. They both will cause me some disconfort.

I just got back from a week in Roatan and did not get bit at all. Maybe I was lucky, or whatever, but I think that with a bit of breeze.... it is not as bad as people make it. A few other folks got bit a few times. But no real problems. I didn't even use repellent.

Try Alaska sometime. I think the mosquito is the State bird.

30+% DEET and Permaone.

I never go anywhere without a bottle of B complex. One pill just one half hour before the mosquitoes come out and I'm good for the night. Yes, I get scoffed at but it works! I don't know the reason, it just works. (maybe 'cause it smells so bad).

I never heard of Vitamin B2 being a deterent. Garlic tablets are beneficial in keeping mosquitos away...My parents swear by it...of course we are Italian so garlic solves everything from evil spirits to mosquitos (lol). Seriously, try the garlic it puts off an odor in your skin that will repel bugs....
