Not so crazy American visiting Sydney through January 12th. In need of a dive buddy! Have my own gear so only need tanks, fills and weights. Your public transportation system rocks, so I can meet most anywhere in Sydney. Hoping to log as many dives as possible while I'm here. Know any good ones?

Are you up for leaving Sydney? Commercial dives? If so get a greyhound bus and travel north. Fishrock cave, Solitary islands, Julian Rocks, Mata Bommie...

South West Rocks Dive Centre Fish Rock Cave - Dive Fish Rock with the South West Rocks Dive Centre Australia Good operator and they have a hostel
Solitary Islands Marine Park runs for 90 km north of Coffs Harbour Dive the Magnificent South Solitary Islands Marine Park its many years since I dived this area (mid 80s) so no recommendations for an operator
Julian rocks is situated within the Cape Byron Marine park in northern NSW, on the east coast of Australia. Julian Rocks - marine species identification there are a few operators, I use Blue Bay Divers Welcome to Blue Bay Divers - Byron Bay's Most Comfortable Dive and Snorkel Boat but there are two operators in Byron Bay who also have hostel accommodation, Blue Bay Divers are about 20 kilometres north of Byron.
You could then head to Stradbroke Island of Brisbane and dive with Mata Rays! North Stradbroke Island's only 5 Star PADI Dive Centre, Since 1992 Manta Bommie is rated in the top 10 dive sites in Australia.
Go Dive http://godive.com.au/ runs trips from Brisbane, with reduced costs on weekdays
Flinders Reef https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flinders_Reef of Brisbane is also a top rated site with lots of coral and turtles
Wreck of the HMAS Brisbane is just north of Brisbane https://scubaworld.com.au/dive-sites/dive-hmas-brisbane/

Fly from Brisbane to Sydney for about $150.

Darn Just came down with a bug and I have been desperately looking for buddies until now :crying: We have some brilliant diving in Sydney a lot of it shore dives. Highly recommend Bare Island, Shelly beach, Kurnel for weedy seadragons, Clifton Gardens for anglerfish and seahorses. I will keep a watch on this in case I improve enough to be able to dive :praying:

Thanks for all the great information Tbar. I will definitely look into all that. Hope you start feeling soon, bowelofpetunias. If so, let me know!

Hi, Double boat dive this weekend at Magic Point and Wedding Cake Island. Magic Point is a well regarded Sydney dive where you will hopefully come across a number of Grey Nurse Sharks + Weedy Sea Dragons.

Not previously dived Wedding Cake Island before so don't have much info on that, but if your looking for a dive buddy this Sunday 3rd feel free to PM me and we can organise.

Wedding Cake is not that far off from Gordon's Bay and Clovelly Pool so I would expect some similar stuff. I haven't dived it myself. I am still stuffed up but starting to improve so I am :praying: I really need to get wet!

I did the usual and looked at Michael McFadyen's site for a review on the Wedding Cake dive... looks quite interesting, just hoping the conditions will be suitable.
