The 2 hour drive may throw a hitch in my plans but I will continue to look into my options. It would be a shame to travel from coast to coast and not get wet.
When I get my schedule for the time I will be in town I will start seriously looking at the available boats.
 
If it makes it any easier for you, you really don't have to dive off a boat in Monterey -- in fact, some of the best dives I've done there have been shore dives, especially at Lobos.
