We plan to spend 4 night at the Presidente InterContinental Resort Los Cabos at the end of August, would like to do some diving, and are trying to select a dive operator. Reviews for Baja Dive and Amigos Del Mar look good, and our hotel recommended Eagle Divers (PADI Resort, looks like small boats). We do not plan to rent a car, so logistics is a consideration.

You're a long way from the dive shops when staying at the Presidente. I don't think boats can pick you up from shore due to the tides, but I'm not positive...if they can, go downtown to Manta and ask for Kiki...he might arrange for the dive boat to pick you up close to shore. We had a great experience and they picked us up from the shore at the Pueblo Bonito Blanco. Well worth it.

Hello Divers.Your Hotel is about 20 miles from Cabo so you wont get a beach pickup.
Your right about Eagles Boats small.I dive With Baja Dive I like the 40 foot Boat lots of shade and great service. They Have picked me up at the Melia Hotel but thats close.
Your best bet is to rent a car or take a Taxi at least the day you Dive.

Taxis will probably run about $30 so plan ahead. I go to Cabo often and use Amigos Del Mar, they have been in business for a long time. ADM have nice boats with lots of room and a head, well cared for rental gear, good DMs and safety gear on board. They are located right beside the Dolphin Experience so are easy to find, and their boat is about 40 steps away from their shop. What ever shop you decide to use, look at their website and see what boat they use (some Dive Ops use a water taxi). You might want to consider a day of diving Cabo Pulmo too.

Thanks, all.

I have contacted all 4 possible operators, and none seem willing to provide transportation.

This is our first trip to Cabo, and based on our experiences driving in the TJ / Ensanada area (we live in San Diego), are not crazy about renting a car in Mexico. I happen to have 2 free days with Hertz, and could explore renting a car for the day(s) we plan to dive.

Just confirmed that our Citi MasterCard car insurance will cover us completely for car rentals - works out rather well.

We will be staying in Los Cabos for 4 nights / 5 days, and trying to decide how much diving to plan for?

If there are sufficient things to see and do, we would like to do two days or one day and one night.

Any comments on night diving in the area?

Cabo Pulmo (National Marine Park) looks interesting. Should that be considered an option for a second day? If yes, should we drive or use one of the local dive operators. While I am not that familiar with the area, it may make more sense to drive (and pay $75 for 2-tank dive), than drive from our hotel to the marina, then take the 2.5 hour boat ride (and pay $200 plus).

Hello I have made some nite Dives in Cabo I enjoyed them all. Last nite Dive we saw a green sea Turtle and nite blooming coral.I would try to bring a dive lamp.

I have driven in the Cabo area (all the way down to La Paz) a fair amount and it is not like driving in other areas of Mexico. It is relatively stress free. People generally follow the road rules and don't really drive like maniacs. The worst I have experienced is a vehicle overtaking me on the left on a two lane road.
