My wife and I are visiting Northern MA at the end of July and are looking at diving in the area. We are experienced Dry Suit divers (own DUI), but have not dove the Atlantic at all. We've been down to 50 degrees. Hey we live in Texas, that's cold here. I grew up in Malden and sailed extensively around Rockport and Boston as a kid. I'd like to see what was underneath all those years. I'd be interested in Halfway Rock, Egg Rock and anything else of interest. We can shore dive or charter. We will have all gear except tanks and weights. We do love our Nitrox (Geezer Gas). Any suggestions? I am a PADI instructor and my wife is a Divemaster. I only mention it for skill and knowledge reference. Most of our diving has been blue water, but we teach in rock quarries year round and have a couple of hundred dives plus.

You might want to check out the URL shown below. Our dive club has repeatedly used this dive operator and have been extremely happy with them. They sail out of Salem, MA.

We like Cape Ann Divers. Check out their web site www.capeanndivers.com. They dive all the sites you mentioned. You might want to try Rockport Breakwater or the wreck of the Chester Poling.

Don't forget Fran Marcoux for charters on the Daybreaker. He's got his 2007 schedule posted on the NE Aquarium Dive Club calender section. Based out of Gloucester.

Fran runs a great boat. He'll really takes care of you when you are out with him. He takes sandwich orders before the dive and has it waiting when you get back, warm water buckets to warm up your wetsuit gloves, and last time I went out with him I punched a hole in the wrist seal on my drysuit and he did a quick repair for me on the surface interval while I ate my sandwich.

Here is the Schedule Lobstaman mentioned: http://www.neadc.org/divecal_capeanncharters.html

Cape Ann Divers is also good. They have two boats, a bigger one and a smaller one. I've only been out on the bigger boat with Capt Steve who can be a pretty funny guy. They have a really friendly crew and the boat is a nice platform to dive from. They won't spoil you as much as Fran, but if you are just looking to get out and have a good safe time diving and don't care quite as much about personal attention they run a nice boat. It is a bigger boat with more divers so it is really just a different sort of operation from what Fran is trying to do.

Thanks for the prompt responses! What would be the temp ranges in late July down to 100'? I like the idea of being spoiled on a dive boat. My wife is "Diva Duck". When she's working as a Divemaster, she works as hard as any man, but when she's on a rec dive, she likes being pampered. She loves nothing better than a small Cozumel dive boat with DM's hauling everything for her. She does check her gear after, but loves the luxury. I don't expect that kind of treatment, but it will go better for me to pick the service oriented charter versus the other. I will be reaching out to Fran soon.

Pampering on a New England dive boat? Eh, you can't get they-uh from hee-uh.

Fran will do more in the way of pampering than CAD. Both are very good. Just different.
