Hello all,

My fiance Neil (NP251) and I live in NorCal, but will be visiting SoCal for a diving vacation this next week. We are going with our LDS to the Catalina Islands aboard the Vision Saturday August 6th - Tuesday August 9th and then headed to San Diego Wednesday August 10th - Sunday August 14th. We are planning to dive the Yukon on Saturday aboard the Lois Ann.

We are hoping to get in a few local shore dives in SD Thursday and Friday. From what we can gather, La Jolla Shores seems to be a nice site. If you can offer any advice on sites or (if possible) meet up with us for a dive - we'd really appreciate it. A little about us - we are researchers at Stanford who have been diving for 1.5 and 5 years, respectively. In my 1.5 years, I have 75+ cold-water dives in Monterey and Neil has over 200 total. Happy to provide more info or cell phone numbers by PM.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

-Katie and Neil

Surf is up a bit this weekend so you will have to look for some protected areas. I haven't checked San Diego yet. LA area and Laguna both look good for surfing unfortunately. Of course, some of the more protected spots with a nice sandy/easy entry may be okay, like Redondo. Good luck and welcome to SoCal! I hope to visit north soon with the family...

maybe some folks with better local San Diego info will chime in. A visit to ShoreDiving.com - Your Shore Diving and Snorkeling Web Community! will give you many other options to find something worth doing this week.

...and Surf, Surfing, Surfers, Surf Forecast, Surf Cams, Surf Reports, Surf Videos, Surf News, Surf Photos, Surf Events, Surf Coverage, Surf environment, surf culture, shaping, women surfers - SwellWatch.com :D

...edit...just checked...San Diego looks a little better but I am not as familiar with the sites down there to give you any specific info. Swell watch says 1-3 or 4 ft for the whole area but I don't know where exactly the shore dive spots fall on the map to say if it will be one or three feet surf.
