ear plugs - although I was so tired, I really wasn't bothered by the noise of the other people around me, these can be nice to have to make sure you'll sleep through the night.

Do *not* forget these..

For me, the noise of the engine overnight between islands on the Channel Islands trip was more than I'd like to hear.

The trip will be MUCH better with, than without.

When we went, it was through my dive club, who had chartered the entire boat and then just filled it to the break-even point. I think we had maybe 30 on the boat, so there was a lot of room (and many extra bunks, which was nice because then we were able to spread out and have the extra storage.) Actually, it was roomy enough that I was able to have a double bunk to myself, and also had my choice of single beds to store my stuff on.

Before I went, I had the same questions as to what to bring, and started a similar thread. I'm not sure if this will work, but here's the link to that thread for you.

The other things I'd suggest are:
a warm jacket (if you have a truwest one, that would be ideal), seasickness prevention, sunglasses, sunblock, a fishing license / knife (the scallops I got on my 3-day were the best I've ever had!), and glow sticks and extra batteries for your lights for the night dive. That's all I can think of for now. Be sure and let us know how the trip is when you get back!

I just back from a three day aboard the Peace and loved it but back to your question:

Non clothing items sunscreen, brush, toothbrush, mascara, chap stick, sunglasses, hat, money to tip the crew not to play poker, and two towels.

Clothing items: I brought two pair of sweats, two jackets, two pair of socks mittens two bathing suits. Ofcouse changes in underwear. A couple of t-shirts. The key is layers so if you get hot you can just pull one off or if its cold add another.

During the day you live in your wetsuit or drysuit. And for me my wetsuit dosent come off till after i am done diving for the day. so i like to be warm and comfortable. so layers layers layers. It gets cold on the boat at night and in the morning.

You are sure to love it... As a side note eveything but my towels fit in a medium sized duffle. I wore my jacket so that wasnt included in the bag.

Have a great time.

Are the showers on the Vision meant to be for full-on shower-taking (i.e. shampoo, soap, etc?) Or just for a quick rinse?

I'm trying to decide if I should bother bringing things like shampoo and a comb, or just accept that my hair is going to be a matted rat's-nest for three days... ;)

On the Conception, there were outdoor showers which I think are more for just rinsing off and getting warm water on you. Since they drain straight off the boat into the ocean, I don't know if they want you using shampoo, soap, etc.. on the deck.
But, the showers downstairs were definitely meant to be used for real showers. And, those showers were very nice at the end of the day - it really felt good to be warm and clean before crawling into the bunks. Of course, I still wasn't winning any beauty contests, and the fashion statement I made wasn't one anyone would want to repeat, but I would still plan on showering.

Thanks... this is good to know. My hair is hard enough to detangle after ONE day of diving; I shudder to think what three days with no intervention would produce...

Try to board the boat at an early time so you can claim a good spot for your dive gear. If you like a cold one or two to end your dive day, bring a small ice chest with your favorite blonde or brunette. Don't forget to bring some cash for the tip. You're going to have a great time!!! Happy Thanksgiving.
Enjoy,
JAW

You can't pull with hood hair. Bring a lid.

:D

That's a good point. The last time I went diving, it took me about ten minutes of combing IN the shower with gobs of conditioner in my hair! It's days like that that make me remember why I once cut it all off.... Definitely tempting...

Hmm. This is starting to turn into a discussion that belongs more in the Women's forum!

Well, we're pretty much packed up - thanks for everyone's suggestions; we definitely go some good ideas. We head out tomorrow; when we get back, I'll make sure to post about the boat and the diving.

I was on the Truth (smallest of the fleet) in October. All the advice looks good to me. Consider bringing a medium sized milk crate or other drainable box. It will fit on deck and provide a great place to put gloves, hoods, masks, weight belts etc. This really saves time when you want to get your stuff back to gether or get it off and find it again. The wet suit "drying" area below deck never got mine quite as warm or dry over night as I had hoped.

Have a good trip. Truth Aquatics is a great operation
