What depth and type of diving will you be doing. The viper is one of the wettest breathing regulators I have ever tried and the purge isn't the most friendly. If you are comfortable with it have at it. The Dacor first stage isn't bad so if you are staying within rec depths you should be OK!. I doubt you will find anyone to dive it deeper with.

The older Vipers were fairly wet, but the newer ones do great. I love them as an octo as the orientation is not critical. But for my primary, you just can't beat a Micra.

Vipers of various ages differ a lot in both wetness and in the design of the purge button. Some of the viper purge button assemblies are downright cheap and in my opinion a little scary.

But I have one late production viper second stage that I bought on closeout that works extremely well on a deco bottle. The compact design is great in that application as is the fact that it is significantly different than the back gas regs and is unlikely to be confused.
