Here's an account of my adventures of diving in Monterey without any plans. Quite unusual, I usually have everything preplanned, who to dive with, where, what depths, what gas and equipment to use..the usual planning like most divers do. All dives are fun, some are just more interesting, right?
My buddies canceled on me at the last minute, so Saturday morning I decide to just show up at K Dock and yell over the railing, "Hey, got space for one more." Captain Scott of the Cypress Sea says "sure". Cool, I'm in. There was always the prospect of going to Breakwater and approaching some poor diver and asking if I can be their buddy. ;-)
So I hop on just in time and off we go! Our destination, Honeymoon Rocks. The next task at hand for me is to find someone to dive with. Perry, a fellow volunteer for our artificial reefing program, is there teaching an advanced deep dive class. They had 3 instructors for 4 students and were targeting going to 130 feet for their training dive. Not a buddy possibility there, too deep for the gas I was diving. I needed to stay at around 100'. Hmm...who do I talk to now.
Since I was trying out a new set of doubles with an overabundance of gas and most women divers I've dived with seemed to have pretty good gas consumption rates, I buddied up with 2 gals on the boat and off we go.
Quite a fun dive.
Max depth 109' 34 minutes 50 degrees, viz was 35ish, not much surge and no current to speak of.

All dives are fun, some are just more "entertaining" ;-)
Live Long, play hard, be safe, deco, don't push the tables and do deep stops!
